A Room with a Review – SmackDown 1/10/20
Time for a perfectly cromulent episode of Friday Night SmackDown, including John Morrison and a returning Robert Roode. See? Perfectly cromulent.
- The latest episode of MizTV starts the show. Yay, heel Miz. Miz says he was having a bad day last week and apologizes to Kofi. Boo, face Miz. Time to introduce his guest, John Morrison! It was great to hear that music, but they lost the slo-mo cam somewhere through the years. They give us a recap of John’s highlights (a highlight reel, if you will), just in case you weren’t watching before 2011. I mean, you definitely couldn’t see him anywhere else during those years. Morrison made his comeback early to help his friend and he is disappointed in all of us. John starts running down the crowd before being interrupted by Big E and Kofi Kingston. New Day calls Miz on his bs and Miz calls Kofi on how he hasn’t done anything to get the WWE title back after losing it in six seconds. Looks like we are getting a Kofi/Miz rematch after the commercial break.
- Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz with John Morrison and Big E on commentary. Morrison tries to fire Big E up by asking how many times did Kofi offer him a title shot, but E was having none of it. Miz and Kofi are fighting on the outside and Miz throws Kingston into Big E. After another commercial, E and Morrison have left the announce table and are at ringside. Miz wins with the Skull Crushing Finale after Morrison hits Big E with some crazy parkour flip off the ring steps.
- It’s the Firefly Fun House! Bray says that he loves us, but The Fiend feels the opposite of love at Daniel Bryan. He says Daniel is in trouble at the Royal Rumble.
- Sonya is trying to pump Mandy up for her match but Mandy is distracted.
- Time for Elias. Why can’t they give us a commercial now?
- Tucker is trying to pump Otis up when Mandy comes by with an apology cake. It even has a little bulldozer on it!
- Alexa Bliss w/ Nikki Cross vs. Mandy Rose w/ Sonya Deville. They’re both blonde, so who will Vince pick to win? Mandy, apparently, as she rolls up Alexa, who was distracted by Otis, who is on the ramp, eating his cake.
- Lacey Evans vs. Sasha Banks w/ Bayley. Sasha doesn’t come out to her music and Bayley appears on the Titantron. She says Sasha took a last-minute opportunity to finish her rap album in LA. Evans somehow elicits a USA chant, because LA and Indiana are essentially different countries to these fans. Lacey heads to the back and gets jumped by Bayley, but no-sells it and returns the favor.
- Daniel Bryan is backstage with Kayla Braxton. He says that The Fiend changed him, but for the better. He says that he knows that Bray can be beaten. Ramblin’ Rabbit appears on the TV monitors and says he knows the secret to defeating The Fiend, but Bray cuts him off before he can say what it is.
- Braun Strowman vs. Shinsuke Nakamura w/ El Presidente Sami Zayn and Cesaro. It’s non-title, so this match should end with Michael Cole shouting “Braun Strowman has pinned the Intercontinental Champion!” Corey Graves mentions Braun’s “patented running powerslam”. The British Bulldog must have bequeathed it to him, as Davey Boy had won the patent in a Powerslam on a Pole match against The Warlord. As expected, Strowman uses said powerslam to pin the Intercontinental Champion.
- Sheamus is in his weird, under-lit room to discuss how he nearly decapitated Shorty G. It’s not like he had to kick that high.
- Daniel Bryan is in the locker room and there is a gift box waiting for him. Inside is a disfigured Ramblin’ Rabbit. The Fiend will not be ignored, Dan!
- Roman Reigns is in the ring talking about how his family is back to help him and that 2020 is his year. The Usos join him in the ring and call Corbin Queen. Because being a girl is worse than being a man, you guys! King Corbin interrupts and says that Reigns is scared to face him one on one, so he’s hiding in the Royal Rumble. Roman says let’s have a match earlier in the card, then beat on each other in the Rumble. Corbin accepts.
- Main Event: The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) vs. King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler. Robert Roode returns from suspension, erm, injury and takes out Roman (who had come down to help when The Revival made an appearance). Everything devolves and the heels stand tall.
- The episode was fine. It progressed stories, but there was no real big moment. Let me know what you thought in the comment section below.
