A Room with a Review: SmackDown 03/06/20

The WWE is on the Road to WrestleMania, except for a pit stop in Philly for Elimination Chamber, which they are still adding matches to.

  • We’re starting with A Moment of Bliss, featuring the new WWE Hall of Famers, the NWO. And by NWO they mean Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and X-Pac. Ther go my dreams of Vincent and Scott Norton making it in. Nikki excitedly drops a too sweet on them and Alexa doesn’t know which name to call X-Pac. This is going about as well as you think it would. Sami Zayn’s crew thankfully interrupts. One would assume that it’s to give Zayn, Cesaro, and Nakamura the rub but the heels back out, making them look scared of a crew of senior citizens. As they do, Braun Strowman comes out to cut them off. Cesaro charges him, followed by Nak, but he takes care of them, leaving Sami to scurry into the ring, with a waiting NWO.

  • Next up is a tag team match with Naomi and Lacey Evans against Bayley and Sasha Banks. Sasha and Bayley double team Lacey and knock Naomi off the apron. They continue to pound on Evans, focusing on her leg. Naomi finally gets the tag and she starts to fly. Sasha pins Naomi in the corner to get the win.

  • Kayla Braxton is backstage with Big E and Kofi. There is a gauntlet match tonight and the winner enters the Elimination Chamber last.

  • After the commercial break, Bayley and Sasha are walking around backstage, trash-talking the women, including the Bellas. I think they coined a new group name but I already forgot what it was.

  • Sheamus is facing off against Apollo Crews. Shorty G offers him some help but Crews wants nothing to do with it. Sheamus wins quickly with a Brogue kick.

  • Drake Maverick finds Drew Gulak backstage. Drake wants Drew’s help to face Daniel Bryan. DB interrupts and says he’s up for fighting Gulak at Elimination Chamber.

  • Time for another women’s tag match as Carmella and Dana Brooke face off against Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose w/ Dolph Ziggler. Dolph distracts Dana long enough for Sonya to tag in Mandy, who gets the pin after a flying knee.

  • It’s Firefly Fun House time! Bray chose Cena as his opponent because he beat Bray six years ago. Wyatt forgives John, but The Fiend does not.

  • Kayla is backstage with King Corbin. He wants to talk about WrestleMania, but Elias drowns him out with his guitar playing. Corbin runs him down, then leaves. I guess that’s another high profile match added to the card.

  • Heavy Machinery is backstage and Otis apologizes to Mandy for being late for their date, even though he had received a text message saying she was going to be late. Mandy says has already moved on and Otis is crestfallen.

  • Time for the tag team gauntlet match. The first two teams are New Day and Heavy Machinery. Otis pins Big E after the Trash Compactor. Lucia House Party is next up. Otis gets another pin, this time with the Caterpillar. Next out are the Usos, who are eliminated by a Tucker schoolboy roll-up. Now Heavy Machinery gets to face the champs, Miz and Morrison. Tucker pins Morrison with a small package. Miz and Morrison continue to beat on Otis and Tucker before they have to face the final team, Ziggler and Roode. Tucker takes a beating and the place goes nuts once he makes the hot tag to Otis. Dolph makes a sneaky tag to get into the match and superkicks Otis for the win.

The show was fine and they are clearly moving forward toward WrestleMania, but this is still the worst of WWE’s main shows. I’m hoping they do something after WrestleMania to spice it up, maybe some fresh blood from NXT. What do you think could help? Let me know in the comment section below.
