Shopping at the Should/Will – Royal Rumble 2020

Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX is the home to this year’s Royal Rumble. I have confirmation that the only signs that will be stolen are the pro-AEW ones that security is going to confiscate.

Shorty G vs. Sheamus

Who should win?

Shorty G

If you’re going to take an excellent wrestler like Chad Gable, saddle him with an insulting name (that you just know Vince McMahon was already calling him to his face), and give him a catchphrase like “Rise Over Size”, then you have to give him the win when big bad bully Sheamus shows up, right?

Who will win?

Sheamus

This is still Vince’s show, pal. He’s not going to let his pale Adonis lose to a guy who’s a full foot shorter than him.

Andrade (c) vs. Humberto Carrillo – WWE United States Championship

Who should win?

Andrade

The man formerly known as “Cien” Almas is amazing to watch and continues to put on great match after great match. I think a prolonged US title run can help establish him as a top name going forward.

Who will win?

Andrade

He’s had the belt for less than a month and I don’t think he’s going to be a transitional champion. As talented as Carrillo is, I think it’s too soon to pull the trigger on a title run for him. Let him and Andrade battle it out over the next month or two and he can win it at WrestleMania in the annual Please Don’t Die Secondary Title Ladder Match.

Roman Reigns vs. King Corbin – Falls Count Anywhere match

Who should win?

Roman Reigns

It’s rare to say this, but Roman needs this win. Though it was through nefarious means, King Corbin has gotten the best of Roman multiple times over the past two months, including a victory at December’s TLC event.

Who will win?

Roman Reigns

This should be the end of this feud and Roman will come out on top. Plus, he’s gotta look strong before he enters the Royal Rumble match later in the night.

Bayley (c) vs. Lacey Evans – WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

Who should win?

Bayley

They really need to keep up the momentum with heel Bayley. She’s the most interesting woman on SmackDown and she should continue to dominate. Plus, the logical ending for Lacey is a match against Sasha Banks, not Bayley.

Who will win?

Lacey Evans

Of course, that eventual Evans/Banks match could use a little hardware, right? Plus, it would help legitimize the newly babyface Evans.

Becky Lynch (c) vs. Asuka with Kairi Sane – WWE Raw Women’s Championship

Who should win?

Asuka

I think it would be great if Asuka continued to be that one person that Lynch can’t beat. It keeps her from becoming Super Becky and allowing her character to become stale.

Who will win?

Becky Lynch

Asuka won at last year’s Rumble, so we’ll get some long-term 50-50 booking. Plus, I think they will want to have Becky face off against the winner of the Royal Rumble match at WrestleMania.

“The Fiend” Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Daniel Bryan – Strap match for the WWE Universal Championship

Who should win?

The Fiend

Daniel Bryan is amazing and the rebirth of the Yes Movement has been great, but he’s not going to be the guy to dethrone The Fiend, at least not yet.

Who will win?

The Fiend

Bray isn’t losing the belt before WrestleMania and he may not lose it then, either.

Men’s Royal Rumble match

Who should win?

Someone from NXT

WWE should capitalize on the success of NXT’s involvement with Survivor Series, which added an electricity that their flagship shows needed. Can you imagine the hoss fight that Keith Lee and Brock Lesnar would have at WrestleMania? Matt Riddle has said that his ultimate goal is to retire Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. Well, here’s their chance to make that happen. Plus, it might get more people to tune in to NXT (and help them beat AEW in the ratings) if they think there is a chance that Brock Lesnar might pop up on the show.

Who will win?

Roman Reigns

I think the ultimate plan is to have somebody finally beat The Fiend at WrestleMania. The only person currently on the active roster who should be able to do it is Roman. He’s a previous Rumble winner and is always a safe pick for this spot.

Dark Horse?

John Cena

If there’s anybody out there who could beat The Fiend without it ultimately hurting his image is John Cena. WrestleMania is in Tampa, which is where John Cena lives. Plus, Vince loves his moments and Cena needs just one more WWE Championship to break the tie between him and Ric Flair for the most world titles. It would be the perfect send-off for John, if he is indeed riding off into that Hollywood sunset.

Women’s Royal Rumble match

Who should win?

Shayna Bazler

All of the things about NXT mentioned above are also relevant here. Bazler just dropped the NXT Championship to Rhea Ripley, so it makes perfect sense that she is getting moved to Raw of SmackDown. What better way to make an impact than with a Royal Rumble victory.

Who will win?

Sasha Banks

I actually had these two options switched, but I talked myself into the idea of Lacey Evans facing Sasha for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. Plus, I think she needs a big victory like this to help cement her and Bayley’s heel turns last year. I think we’ll have a better idea after the Bayley/Lacey match earlier in the night.

Dark Horse?

Ronda Rousey

Again, Vince likes moments. A returning Ronda Rousey would get a huge reaction and a victory would set up a likely rematch with Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship. Again, I think the match earlier in the night will help us determine the outcome here.
